The requirement of calcium in modern day poultry is enormous. A major portion of dietary calcium is used in bone formation in chicks, growers and broilers and for eggshell formation in layers. Laying poultry requires more calcium because of calcium carbonate content of eggshell. It is also well documented that as age advances the ability to absorb dietary calcium decreases.
The control of calcium and phosphorus metabolism in the bird is a complex phenomenon involving vitamin D3, Parathormone from the parathyroid gland and calcitonin from the C cells of the thyroid glands.
In recent years it has been observed that inspite of meeting the dietary requirements of calcium in right proportions incidences of perosis, lag weakness, cage layer fatique and thin shelled eggs are on the increase. This could probably be due to the fact that adequate free phosphorus might not be made available in the system for better utilization of calcium.
It is proved that about 80% of body phosphorus is deposited in the skeletal system of the birds. The rest is widely distributed throughout the body and is primarily involved in transfer of biological energy particularly through adenosine triphosphate. During production time, the fungus grows rapidly and secretes enzymes to break down the substrate (Solid Media) to release nutrients and then dried & standardized for enzyme activities, passed through quality control to produce the finished product, Maxizyme SSF.

On the top addition : Maxizyme SSF should be used on the top of diets when calculated protein, energy, phosphorus and calcium levels of a diet are thought to be limiting or marginal in terms of the target species requirements. Availability of Phosphorous: The phosphorous present in cereal feed is mostly entrapped in phytate residues. The chicken digestive juices lack the enzyme phytase that necessary to liberate the phosphorous for absorption by the gut wall. Hence Dicalcium phosphate (DCP) or Monocalcium phosphate (MCP) is added to fulfill the phosphorous requirement of the chicken. Breaking down NSPs: Most of the vegetable feed stuffs like maize, soyameal, wheat, rice polish, sunflower cake, ground nut cake, rapeseed meal, DDGS, sesame meal, jowar, bajra etc. Inherently contain certain level of cell wall carbohydrate residues which are known as nonstarch poly-saccharides (NSPs) etc. These NSPs include celluloses, hemicelluloses (arabinoxylans) glucans, pectins, galactosides etc. These soluble NSPs have a strong antinutritional effect by way of increasing the viscocity of the digesta in the chicken intestine. Increased visocity leads to inadequate aborption of nutritients. Impaired peristaltic progress of chyme through the intestine causing flatulence and bacterial overgrowth. This is evidenced by loose or sticky dropping causing serious hygiene problems. These problems can be solved by incorporation of measured quantities of NSP digesting enzymes like cellulase (i.e. Carboxy methyl cellulase and B glucanase), hemicellulases (i.e. Xylanase), and pectinases in the poultry & aqua rations.
